Snowboarder Jake Canter reflects on near-death journey to bronze medal
American snowboarder Jake Canter claimed bronze in slopestyle at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games in what was his Olympic debut. The 22-year-old's remarkable journey to the podium wasn't easy to say the least. At age 13, Jake was involved in a trampoline accident that led him to multiple comas, meningitis (twice), permanent hearing loss in right ear, and even asking if he was dying. Despite being advised to never snowboard again, and a host of other injuries and setbacks, Jake told CNN World Sport's Patrick Snell how he used snowboarding as therapy and found motivation in wanting to prove people wrong. Jake has been describing his journey and that medal-winning moment at the Winter Olympics.
