WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 29: U.S. President Donald Trump delivers remarks before signing the Laken Riley Act, the first piece of legislation passed during his second term in office, in the East Room of the White House on January 29, 2025 in Washington, DC. Jason Riley and Allyson Philips, the parents of 22-year-old Laken Riley, a University of Georgia nursing student who was murdered in 2024 by an undocumented immigrant, attended the signing ceremony. Among other measures, the law directs law enforcement authorities to detain and deport immigrants who are accused but not yet convicted of specific crimes, if they are in the country illegally. <p>Colorado Democrat Jessica Killin hopes to unseat GOP Rep. Jeff Crank this fall. Since its creation more than 50 years ago, a Democrat has never served in that seat, but the party thinks this is their chance to flip it. "The demographics have changed, and what I hear everywhere on every corner of this district is that people are frustrated," Killin told CNN's Manu Raju. "They want real leadership. They want someone who's going to actually deliver for them, and they're struggling. People are really struggling to make ends meet in my district, just like they are across the country."</p>

A Democrat has never represented Colorado's 5th Congressional District. Will this be the cycle that changes?
