Palestinian olive pickers attacked over and over

The olive harvest in the occupied West Bank has become a season of fear. Brutal settler attacks have marred what should be a time of history, culture and tradition. More than 200 attacks have occurred within the last month, according to the Palestinian Authority, often with the army’s support. The Israeli military told CNN it “recognizes the importance of the olive harvest in maintaining the fabric of life in the region,” but acknowledged it has restricted entry to certain areas in order to “prevent friction.” CNN’s Jeremy Diamond visits a Palestinian farm damaged by settlers and speaks to a farmer attacked by a settler and Israeli soldiers while trying to reach his family’s olive groves.

<p>Pope Leo XIV met the basketball teams from two US colleges at a rare gathering in the Vatican, which included the pope's former university, Villanova. The men’s and women’s sides from Villanova, and Notre Dame, known as the Fighting Irish, will duke it out at Rome’s Palazzo dello Sport on Sunday, in the opening game of the season. The first American pope, born Robert Prevost, who graduated from Villanova in 1977, told the audience he would not be taking sides, but still dropped a rather large hint at where his allegiance might lie.</p>
