Called “the voice of Gaza’s decimated health sector” by Amnesty International, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya had been fighting to keep the last major functioning health facility in northern Gaza open. On December 27, 2024, the IDF raided and closed the hospital, acknowledging that they detained Dr. Abu Safiya.
