With US President Donald Trump repeatedly expressing his ambition to bring Greenland under US control and Russia and China vying for influence in the Arctic, the world’s largest island has emerged as a key Arctic battleground. CNN’s Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Matthew Chance joined the Danish military in Greenland to observe its biggest ever combat exercise. But while Danish military officials are keen to point out that the drills are intended to deter Moscow and Beijing, the real message is for President Trump – and to convince Washington there is no need to take Greenland as its own.
