Britain’s King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, were in the United States this week for his first state visit to the country.
The couple was welcomed Monday by their hosts, US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, before a garden party at the British ambassador’s residence in Washington, DC.
On Tuesday, the King and Trump participated in much pomp and circumstance, including a military review at the White House. The King also gave a joint address to Congress hours before a state dinner.
The royals spent time in New York on Wednesday and then spent much of Thursday in Virginia before departing the country.
The King’s visit came as US-UK relations are strained by the war in Iran, with Trump slamming Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s refusal to assist the US militarily. Although the King must stay above politics, his government was hoping that his US tour could help ease tensions.
