Saturday marks the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the war remains deadlocked.
Last week, Ukraine was forced to withdraw from the key town of Avdiivka after months of fierce fighting. It was its worst defeat since the fall of Bakhmut in May.
Ukraine has been shifting to a more defensive footing after its much-vaunted counteroffensive last summer failed to reap the desired gains. The country has struggled with manpower constraints, and its supply of ammunition from the West is beginning to run dry.
"We're just waiting for more weapons," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CNN's Christiane Amanpour during the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
