Model Amber Rose takes a selfie during a "SlutWalk" in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3. SlutWalks started in 2011 in response to a flippant remark reportedly made by a police officer after a spate of sexual assaults on the campus of Canada's York University. According to local media reports, the officer said: "Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized." Women in Toronto, outraged by the comment, took to the streets in lingerie and skimpy clothing to spread the message that women should not be subject to sexual violence regardless of what they're wearing. The notion spread, and SlutWalks now occur year-round across the globe.
