Delicate Arch is probably the most photographed landmark in Utah. It does dominate the state's license plate after all. It's no surprise that many visitors to Arches National Park want this picture.

Even the park brochure recommends visiting Delicate Arch at sunset. The heat of the day is finally subsiding and the evening light illuminates the arch and La Sal Mountains in the background. If you want the classic shot, get here a few hours before sunset for the best view in the stadium-style seating that the sandstone naturally provides.

Instead of taking a seat next to the rest of the crowd, traverse along the sandstone for different views above or to the left of the arch. Or try heading to the right and down into the tiny basin below the arch for a new view of Delicate Arch. This basin is full of juniper trees and puddles that offer a different perspective.

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park straddles the Utah/Arizona border and is one of only a few tribal parks in the region. Just inside the park gates you'll get to the visitor center and hotel with this classic view of the famous Mittens Buttes.

Most visitors don't venture beyond the viewpoint at the visitor center. At sunset (and even at sunrise) the viewpoint here is shoulder to shoulder with selfie sticks, iPad cameras and photographers with tripods, all intruding on the magnificent view.

Take the time to venture beyond the viewpoint on the 17-mile scenic drive during sunset and sunrise. Or hike one of the two trails the park has to offer for more solitude and a unique view of Mittens Buttes and other geologic features.

Enjoying the sunrise from Mesa Arch in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park is a must-do park experience. Mesa Arch has been made famous in photos thanks to the early morning orange glow on its bottom and the framing it provides for Washerwoman Arch further down the canyon.

To get the classic shot you should arrive at least an hour before sunrise to stake our prime photography real estate in front of the arch. If you aren't here in time, a line of tripods and photographers will almost certainly block any chance of getting your classic Mesa Arch photo.

Show up one to two hours after sunrise and the orange glow and low angle sunlight will still be here, but the crowds of people competing for the best photograph won't be.

The are only two ways to capture the classic photo of light beams in Upper Antelope Canyon: you can go on a normal tour and hope to get really lucky (nearly impossible), or go on a specific photographic tour on which guides will set you up in specific places at certain times as the beams of light shine into the canyon. They'll also hold back the crowds from normal tours from your shot for a minute or two while you photograph.

The only way to get into Antelope Canyon is by guided tour. Many companies offer tours, but only a few offer photography tours. The canyon is amazing and certainly worth the visit, but realize that you'll be one of dozens or even hundreds of people in the narrow slot. Adventurous Antelope Canyon Photo Tours provides perfect photo opportunities in Upper Antelope Canyon by controlling crowds and allowing you to set up your tripod in specific spots to get great sunbeam photos.

Instead of touring only the famed Upper Antelope Canyon, also consider Lower Antelope Canyon, where there are fewer people and you have more photographic freedom. Even better, take a tour through nearby Rattlesnake Canyon (pictured) and you'll most likely be part of the only small group in the whole canyon.
