Traveling couple: Nicolas Chazee and his partner Mathilde Vougny, pictured in Ecuador, met when they were studying in Belgium in 2015 and bonded over their passion for travel.

Road tripping: "It all started with a road trip in Belgium," says Chazee. "And ever since, we've always been doing road trips and weekends (away) together."

World tour: In April 2022, they set off on a trip around the world in their Land Rover Defender, named Albatross.

Overnight invitations: They shared their progress on their social media and YouTube channels and were soon inundated with invitations from followers offering them a place to stay.

Forming connections: "We were chatting around dinner, and we learned more about the country in one night than in two weeks of traveling," Vougny says of the first time they accepted one of their many invitations, while visiting Denmark.

Opening doors: They decided that they would say "yes" to as many invitations as possible, a choice that has opened up many doors for them.

Kind strangers: "Each country we go to, we have a lot of people inviting us to their place or giving us places to go visit," says Chazee. "So we have a long list of names with the people who've invited us."

Occasional setbacks: They were forced to stay in Mexico for several weeks longer than planned after Chazee suffered a knee injury and had to undergo surgery.

Weather challenges: According to the couple, the extreme weather conditions they've experienced have been among their biggest challenges so far.

Tiny home: "You're so much more vulnerable to climate and weather (in the vehicle)," explains Vougny.

Trip extension: While they're well over a year into their adventure, the pair, seen in Costa Rica, say they'll likely have to extend their trip for up to a year due to the delays along the way.

Looking ahead: They often find themselves mulling over what may lie in store for them once they've completed their incredible journey, and are hugely excited about the future.

Epic adventure: But for the time being, they're focused on enjoying every moment of their global trip and taking each day as it comes.

Making ground: "We can't predict anything yet, because there's so much ahead of us," says Chazee.
