Lebanese surfboard shaper Paul Abbas learned how to make surfboards on YouTube after he struggled to find boards on sale within the region.

Abbas says his surfboards began to improve after he started surfing as he learned about the physics of surfing and what made a good board.

Since beginning his business, P.A. Surfboards, in 2010, Abbas has made over 100 surfboards.

Most of Abbas' boards start at around $450, but depending on its customization -- one could cost up to $900.

90% of Abbas' surfboards are custom made.

Lebanon's surfing community has increased dramatically over the past two years which has helped business, Abbas says. One day he hopes to make surfboards full-time.

"When I started I never would have believed that I could (make a living out of it) -- it wasn't my goal ... But I was lucky to start it when I did because the market (to sell surfboards) is almost full," Abbas says.
