The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool —
The $30.7 million Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool project was launched in November 2010 to address a leaking foundation and replace the circulation system.

The Reflecting Pool —
The renovated pool is drawing water from the Tidal Basin, an inlet along the Potomac River, rather than from city drinking water.
The Reflecting Pool —
The pool is more shallow, taking just two-thirds the water of the original, making it easier to filter.

The Reflecting Pool —
Barring any complications, pumps that are drawing water from the Potomac River will have topped off the Reflecting Pool by the weekend of August 25.

The Lincoln Memorial —
Visitors can again see the reflections of Mall landmarks including the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

The Washington Monument —
An August 23, 2011, earthquake damaged the Washington Monument and forced its closure.

The National Mall construction site —
At the end of the Mall away from the Washington Monument, crews are completing a project to fortify the turf near the U.S. Capitol where spectators will gather for January's Inauguration.

In the shadow of the U.S. Capitol —
The turf will be able to withstand crowds thanks to fresh subsoil, improved irrigation and better walkways for joggers and bicyclists.

Watching the presidential inaugural —
The area has long been a prime gathering point to watch presidential inaugurations at the West Front of the U.S. Capitol.

Ready for the next president —
