Beer-making mecca —
Brewing was introduced to Namibia by German colonists. Their strict purity rules remain in place today, meaning the country produces some of Africa's best, and most refreshing, beers.

Bottled glory —
Windhoek is home to just 322,000 residents, but it produces a dozen beers that hold their own against giant SAB Miller, next door in South Africa.

German tradition —
In winter, NamBrew produces Urbock dark beers, made with Munich barley malt to recipes steeped in Germanic traditions.

Tafel Lager —
While most Namibian beers have always been made in the capital Windhoek, some, like Tafel Lager and Hansa Pilsner, originate from the tiny seaside city of Swakopmund.

Celebrity hangout —
Swakopmund is known as a popular destination for Namibia fans Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. There's a Brauhaus Restaurant and an annual Oktoberfest.

Joe's Beer House —
Comparing the quality of all of Namibia's beers to the imports requires a trip to Joe's Beer House, a Windhoek institution.

Game room —
Joe's serves hearty food to accompany the beers and also has one of the biggest selections of game on any menu, anywhere: kudu loin, zebra steak, oryx schnitzel and crocodile skewers are a sampling.

Windhoek Lager —
One of the most familiar Namibian beers, Windhoek Lager is a popular export, enjoyed in South Africa and further afield.
