Unearthed photos: In 2008, Jennifer Skupin purchased a box of old slides from a flea market in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. She digitized the shots and discovered a collection of stunning photos.

Travels in Alaska: The images seem to date from the 1950s and 1960s, and are mostly taken in Alaska, including the town of Anchorage, pictured.

Abandoned search: A lot of the images contain people, and Skupin figured she might be able to track down the photographers or the subjects. She tried back in 2008, but to no avail.

Trying again: Rediscovering the slides at the end of 2020, Skupin figured it might be easier to make some headway in our more digitized, connected world.

Search for information: She's set up a Google Drive, where she encourages anyone with information or clues to the photos' origin to comment.

Denali National Park: Some of the slides also have dates or place names written on the back. On the back of this slide was written "Mt McKinley State Park," now known as Denali National Park.

Vintage aviation: One of the slides depicts Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, which makes Skupin think the photographer was Dutch and that they traveled to Alaska.

Hints and signals: This photo of nuns had "1960" written on the back, giving a clue to the date.

Church and buildings: On the back of this slide was written "Moravian Church Bethel."

Favorite shot: This photo is one of Skupin's favorites in the collection. She thinks the two girls are sisters. On the back is written "Napakiak," Napakiak is a city in Alaska.

July 4: There are a few photos in the collection from a July 4 celebration. Skupin believes they date from July 4, 1959, Alaska's first time celebrating US Independence Day.

Everyday moments: Skupin likes that the photos capture everyday moments.

Mount Village: This photo was apparently taken in Mount Village, Alaska.

Goodnews Bay: This photo is apparently of a school in Goodnews Bay.

Valuable items: Skupin said she considered framing some of the photos for her wall, but she would rather they were returned to the subjects. "They are valuable to somebody else who doesn't know they exist," she says.

Mount Village portrait: This is another of Skupin's favorite images. According to the writing on the back of the slide, it was also taken in Mount Village. Also written on the back is "Mary Shepparch."

Lost photos: Skupin was surprised a photographer would have let go of the images. The seller at the flea market didn't know where they'd come from.

Unknown person: Written on the back of this slide is "Paul Gregory," which could be the name of the individual in the picture.

Mining equipment: According to the note on the back of the slide, this photo is of mining equipment in Goodnews Bay.

Photographic portrait: This shot is also from Goodnews Bay.

Capturing a moment: Skupin says the photos capture "people and emotion."

Time capsule: "The pictures are so beautiful, there are so many interesting people who must be interested in these pictures, because they capture a moment in time," says Skupin. Written on the back of this slide is "1961."
