Staying the distance: Airbus' newest wide-body, the A350-900ULR, has been put in service on Singapore Airlines new 19-hour route between Singapore and Newark. But it's not the only plane capable of flying ultra long-haul.

Boeing 777-200LR: Qatar Airways flies the Boeing 777-200LR from Auckland to Doha, a distance of more than 14,500 kilometers. With room for 300 passengers, it can be hard to fill on low-demand routes.

Airbus A380: Emirates flies the world's largest passenger airliner, the Airbus A380, on its Dubai to Los Angeles run. It has four engines and uses older technology.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner: There is increased demand for newer, lighter planes like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which consumes up to 20% less fuel than older ultra long-range aircraft.
