A new animal terminal is under construction at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The ARK at JFK will include a Paradise 4 Paws pet resort featuring a bone-shaped swimming pool for dogs.

The ARK will also house equine facilities to handle the care of horses being imported and exported.

Livestock handling systems will also be part of the 178,000-square-foot animal terminal.

Terminal developer Racebrook Capital expects operations to start in 2016.

The new terminal will occupy the former site of JFK's Cargo Building 78, which has been vacant for nearly a decade.
