The history: The building originally housed apartments and transitioned into a motor lodge that closed in 2009.

The lobby: The interior of the building is almost entirely new, with a few original elements such as the lobby's pink granite floor.

Lobby bar: There's a plush bar on the lobby level with seating areas that wrap around a staircase.

Tiny Lou's: The hotel's restaurant, Tiny Lou's, is named after a dancer who performed in the basement lounge in its early days.

Tiny Lou's: The restaurant is a French-American brasserie.

Bold design: The restroom at Tiny Lou's features eye-catching wallpaper.

The vibe: The design is "kind of rock 'n' roll in your grandmother's living room," says Alan Rae, the hotel's general manager.

Making a splash: Texture and pattern are key design elements.

Rooms: There are 94 guest rooms including several suites and a collection of four-bed bunk rooms.

An original: While most of the rooms have been reconfigured, the central staircase is original to the building.
