
Chongqing: With a staggering population of over 30 million, Chongqing -- spanning 82,300 square kilometers -- is the country's biggest city by far. Like Chengdu, it's famous for its spicy cuisine -- hotpot included.

Shanghai: Contributing more than RMB 3 trillion (or US$448 billion) GDP to China's economy in 2017, Shanghai is China's richest city. However, it's only the country's second largest city by population (24 million people).

Beijing: Being the political, historical and cultural heart of China, Beijing is unsurprisingly one of the country's biggest cities, with a population of 21 million people.

Chengdu: Chengdu has a sizable human population of more than 16 million and an impressive panda population, too. Among the 45 surviving panda babies born in 2018, 42 of them were born in Chengdu.

Harbin: Harbin is a unique megacity of China. Home to about 11 million people, its famed for its Russia-influenced architecture and supersized annual winter festival.

Guangzhou: A major trading port along the historical maritime Silk Road as early as the sixth century, Guangzhou has long been one of China's richest cities.

Tianjin: This northeastern Chinese port city has a population of over 15 million people and a GDP of about RMB1.8 trillion per year.

Shenzhen: China's very first special economic zone, Shenzhen transformed from a rural village to one of the country's biggest metropolises in just three decades. it's home to 10% of the world's buildings that were completed in 2018.

Wuhan: Thanks to its central location, Wuhan is one of the biggest transportation hubs in China and the busiest connecting railway hub.

Shijiazhuang: A relatively unfamiliar name on China's megacity list, Shijiazhuang is the provincial capital city of Hebei. Shijiazhuang has sprawled from an unassuming village of a few hundred people to a population of about 10 million in the last 70 years.

Suzhou: Another city pushing the 10 million population mark, Suzhou is famous for its exquisite ancient Chinese gardens. China's tallest building, the 729-meter Suzhou Zhongnan Center, is expected to be complete in 2021.

Hangzhou: Home to tech giants like Alibaba and Taobao, Hangzhou is famous for its entrepreneurs. In this picture, people hold signs that says "I heart Taobao" and "Alibaba Cloud" at a conference in Hangzhou.

Dongguan: Dubbed the factory of the world, Dongguan manufactured over 70% of the world's computer motherboards, 75% of the world's toys, 20% of the world's smartphones and 10% of the world's shoes.

Hulunbuir: Hulunbuir may not have the population to even come close to being named a megacity, but the prefecture-level city in Inner Mongolia is China's largest city by size. Hulunbuir's total jurisdiction area measures 263,954 square kilometers.
