At the club: Exclusive-access dining makes for prime viewing right outside the club house.

Concessions: Pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches for $1.50 each are classic Masters snacks.

The wild card: Perhaps the only detail Augusta National hasn't ironed out is the weather.

Beyond golf: Augusta is also known as the home of "Godfather of Soul" James Brown. The late musician grew up in Augusta.

Industrial past: A canal built in 1845 tells the story of Augusta's manufacturing past. Textile mills line the canal, which is now a popular recreation area.

Boat tours: The Augusta Canal Discovery Center runs regular boat tours along the canal. In the spring and fall, evening music cruises are offered.

Historic hotel: The Partridge Inn is a landmark hotel in the elegant Summerville neighborhood. Many of the city's stately old homes line Summerville's streets.

The Hive: Locally sourced ingredients dominate the menu at The Hive gastropub. The downtown spot also has an extensive selection of craft beer on tap.

Abel Brown: At Abel Brown, an oyster bar and Southern fine dining restaurant, pimento cheese makes an appearance.
