South Korea's image as a tech-driven, futuristic nation, with Seoul at its heart, isn't false. But this country's drive to be the most modern on the planet is only one aspect of its nature. The port of Busan's Jagalchi fish market is foodie heaven, where the freshest seafood can be chosen and cooked in minutes. Jeju island, off the southern tip of the peninsula, has superb hiking and beautiful beaches.

He helped her connect with her birth family. They became best friends for life

Adopted from South Korea to the US when she was six months old, Linsay DeBates returned to her birth country for the first time in 2000, aged 19. By chance, she met fellow American Doug Gist during the trip and a friendship began that continues today.
