Ten Fold Engineering has revealed the uBox -- a portable building that can assemble itself automatically, without the need for foundations or heavy machinery.

The uBox measures to about 645 square feet (60 square meters) once unfolded. Like shipping containers, the houses can be stacked on top of one another for storage or transport.

Dubbed the Tree House, this modular home -- like other Ten Fold designs -- is ready to be lived in. "The secret is all about the seemingly uninteresting levers that allow really big things to go out safely, quickly, reliably and with really no power," says David Martyn, founder of Ten Fold.

"It means that people have got choice. Now, things don't have to be redundant and in the wrong place."

These structures can be used for temporary businesses, to provide schools with extra space, or as mobile homes.

When the structures are folded up in transit, you can store things inside them.

"One of the key things about this is that it's not just making a space -- it's making a space (that can) carry what you need inside it."
