Pierre Cardin's Palais Bulles on the French Riviera provided a spectacular architectural setting for last year's Dior Cruise collection. 92-year-old fashion legend Cardin was in attendance.

Chanel Cruise 2016, Havana, Cuba —
Chanel hosted a long weekend of activities, including a visit to Ernest Hemingway's house, in Havana in May this year to celebrate this collection -- a landmark event for both the brand and the country. Guests were chauffeured to the event in brightly colored convertibles and Fidel Castro's grandson walked the runway.

After weeks of rain, the sun shone on Lagerfeld's 2013 collection. It was staged around the fountains at Versailles, in a section never open to the public -- naturally.

Not even a volcanic ash cloud could stop Karl from staging yet another glamorous Cruise collection, this time in sunny St. Tropez. Models disembarked from boats before walking a runway at sunset in front of Sénéquier, the iconic cafe with endless rows of red director's chairs for guests to sit on.

Designed by John Lautner, knwon for his Space Age, mid 20th century Southern Californian houses, the estate formerly belonging to Bob and Delores Hope was an extraordinary and rarely seen setting. Kanye West, Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Michelle Williams were all in attendance.

Chanel Cruise 2014, The Island in Dubai —
The brand reportedly spent around $2m creating the setting on one of Dubai's man-made islands, all of which was removed almost immediately afterwards.

Fendi, 2007, Great Wall of China —
In 2007, with Karl Lagerfeld at the helm, Fendi staged one of its most magnificent fashion shows. History was made when they hosted the world's longest runway show on the ancient 1,500 mile long Great Wall of China. VIP guests from around the world were invited to attend the event, which reportedly cost the luxury fashion house around $10 million. Not actually Cruise, it featured instead a mini collection from the Spring-Summer 2008 collection.

Chanel Cruise 2010, Venice —
Around 350 guests reclined in sun beds, watching as the collection moved around the Venice lido at sunset.

Christian Dior Cruise 2015, Brooklyn Navy Yard —
With 66 looks and 900 guests at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York, this was the brand's biggest collection. Many guests arrived by free ferries emblazoned with the Dior logo and complete with free Champagne. The set featured a mirrored wall overlooking a stage that was elevated about 16 feet to provide a view of the New York skyline.

Louis Vuitton 2015, Monaco —
Nicolas Ghesquiere's first cruise collection was presented in Monaco, to an "intimate" 300 guests. It was shown in Palace Square on the Palace grounds. The runway was built in a glass cube, with video monitors under the runway showing water gliding over rocks.

Chanel Cruise 2013, Singapore —
Two nights of festivities included a screening of the Lagerfeld-directed movie on the lawns of Raffles Hotel to celebrate the centenary of the opening of Gabrielle Chanel's shop in Deauville in 1913. The collection was shown the following evening on a former nutmeg plantation estate, followed by a cocktail party.

Christian Dior Cruise 2014, Monaco —
Raf Simons first Cruise collection for Dior was staged in Monaco, precipitated by a personal invitation from Princess Charlene of Monaco.
