"I'm giving an echo to the work of the artists, what they have to say about their country and how it is managed," says Delfosse. In this photograph, taken in Selembao district, Kinshasa, Congolese artist Junior Lohaka Tshonga is dressed in an elaborate costume made from plastic pipes. Tshonga uses performance to condemn political inaction in a city of 13 million people.

In the capital's Matonge district, Nada Thsibwabwa wears a costume made from recycled mobile phones to raise awareness on waste. The DRC is one of the leading producers of coltan, a key mineral for smartphone production, however imported smartphones are expensive which has led to a big secondhand phone market in Kinshasa.

The portraits were taken by Delfosse in 2019 after a cultural art festival called KinAct. In this image, Junior Lohaka Tshonga poses in a futuristic spacesuit made of scrap metal in Kinshasa. Designed like armor, it is a metaphor for protection against pollution in the city.
