  • After a mastectomy, Sophia Bassan developed painful shocks that radiated through her chest and back. At one point, her cat, Emi, simply brushed against her skin and caused pain so intense that Bassan screamed. She is one of many women afflicted by post-mastectomy pain syndrome, or PMPS. “Doctors act like it is so rare, like they’re so baffled,” Bassan says. “But this is statistically predictable.”

  • art002e009286 (April 6, 2026) – As the Artemis II crew came close to passing behind the Moon and experiencing a planned loss of signal, they captured this image of a crescent Earth setting on the Moon’s limb.
The edge of the visible surface of the Moon is called the “lunar limb.” Seen from afar, it almost looks like a circular arc – except when backlit, as in other images captured by the Artemis II crew.

In this photo, the dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime, while Australia and Oceania are in the daylight. In the foreground, the Ohm crater is visible, with terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Peaks such as these form in complex craters when the lunar surface is liquified on impact, and the liquefied surface splashes upward during the crater’s formation.

  • Dr. Faysal Al Ghoula is a pulmonary and critical care physician whose path to practicing medicine in the U.S. spans multiple countries and years of training. Born and raised in Libya, he grew up in a family that deeply valued education—eventually, all seven of his siblings became physicians. After instability and conflict disrupted medical training in Libya following 2011, he left the country to pursue further training, first in Qatar and then in the United States. He completed his residency at Creighton University, served as chief resident, and went on to a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. He now practices in Evansville, Indiana, where he cares for a large panel of patients and treats complex pulmonary and ICU cases, including lung cancer. His work is part of a broader system that places internationally trained physicians in underserved areas, where recruiting doctors is difficult. Outside the hospital, he provides free care at a clinic for uninsured patients. His personal life is closely tied to his work—he and his wife are raising two young daughters in the U.S., navigating both the demands of medicine and an uncertain immigration process that now threatens his ability to continue practicing and living in the country.
