New airplane beds —
There's good news for travelers who find it a challenge to sleep on planes. For the price of a premium class ticket, you may just get a space that's comfortable, private, and quiet enough to ensure a good rest.

Air France: La Première First Class —
You may be 35,000 feet above the ocean, but in Air France's La Première First Class cabin the vibe is Parisian hotel chic. The dinners are created by chef Daniel Boulud. For a nightcap, you can enjoy a fresh flute of Champagne. The sheets are crisp and white, topped with a fluffy duvet.

JetBlue Airways: Mint —
For business travelers, getting rest on a lengthy international flight is a must; on shorter flights, it's a treat.

Japan Airlines: First Class Suite —
Offered on its Boeing 777-300ER on routes between Tokyo and New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Paris, beds in the Japan Airlines First Class JAL Suite measure 6.5 feet long fully flat, and are topped with custom-made Airweave pillows and mattress pads, the latter flipped to your personal preference of a soft or firm sleeping surface.

Etihad: First Apartment —
The First Apartment suites onboard Etihad's Airbus A380 allow you to hit the "do not disturb" button, slide the door closed, and grab the pillow mist and pulse-point oil from your personal vanity of amenities before sliding into the six-foot 10-inch bed.

Cathay Pacific: First Class —
Cathay Pacific's First Class isn't one of the newest products on the market, but it's still a leader in the field.

Cathay Pacific: Business —
The Cathay Pacific Business Class seat, unveiled in 2010, was designed by James Park Associates, the firm behind the plush interiors of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and the recently launched Belmond Grand Hibernian luxury train. The seats recline to a fully flat surface of 75 usable inches and feature a retractable armrest and extension, increasing the seat's width from 21 inches (sitting) to 29 inches (fully flat).

Singapore Airlines: Suites —
Designed by French luxury yacht designer Jean-Jacques Coste, Singapore Airlines' Suites premiered on the airline's Airbus A380 in 2007.

Swiss: First Class —
What the First Class cabin on long-haul Swiss flights lacks in glitz, it makes up for in thoughtful design. For example, the firmness of the seat is fully adjustable, and privacy partitions extend to close off your suite from the aisle (and eyes of other passengers).

Qatar Airways: Qsuite —
The first fully lie-flat double bed in business class is new for 2017 and scheduled to roll out to all Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A350 aircraft by late next year. For now, travelers will find the generously proportioned Qsuites flying between Doha and London, Paris, and, beginning in mid-December, New York.

Virgin Australia: The Business —
Virgin Australia introduced its super-luxurious business cabin in 2016.

Emirates: First Class —
In early December, Emirates introduced a completely refreshed first class on select Boeing 777-300ER routes. The seats feature LED "star" lights in the carpeting and overhead panels, faux windows with livestreamed camera views in otherwise windowless middle suites, and privacy doors that reach from floor to ceiling.
