Hundreds of people are still missing after catastrophic flash flooding near the border of China and Nepal on Wednesday.

Scientists are working to determine exactly what caused the disaster. The US Geological Survey said a glacial collapse — when a large section of ice breaks off a glacier and falls down a slope — and landslide was behind the disaster. Dramatic footage shows a torrent of water hitting the mountainous region, submerging villages and wiping out bridges.

The death toll in Nepal climbed to at least 389 people on Thursday. Search-and-rescue operations have been hampered by a lack of connectivity, power and resources.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.

The November election will determine if she gets her own new six-year term.
