US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that a 10-day ceasefire would begin between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

An Israeli source and a leading Hezbollah official acknowledged the deal in separate comments to CNN, noting that they reserved the right to respond to any attacks during the truce.

Israel’s deadly military offensive in Lebanon has been a key sticking point in negotiations on the US-Iran war. Israel began targeting Hezbollah last month after Hezbollah fired projectiles into Israel to avenge the death of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

US military officials said troops in the Middle East are “rearming” and stand ready to resume combat if Iran negotiations fail.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
