US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. testified Thursday in what might have been the most combative congressional hearing of the year.

Kennedy appeared in front of the Senate Finance Committee and answered questions on a variety of topics, including vaccines, recent staffing changes and increasing calls for him to resign. He often fired back at lawmakers during his testimony, which was praised by the White House. Some of the pointed questioning came from Republicans who confirmed Kennedy.

Kennedy’s testimony comes amid a growing storm engulfing his department, including the recent firing of Dr. Susan Monarez, the director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who had been confirmed less than a month earlier. Kennedy has also canceled his department’s funding for future mRNA vaccine developments.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
