Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, a couple of months after he became just the second person in history to win a nonconsecutive term in the White House.
Trump defeated Kamala Harris in November’s election, completing a historic political comeback four years after he lost to Joe Biden. Trump served as president from 2017-2021.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump said as he began his inaugural address. “From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world. We will be the envy of every nation, and we will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer.”
The inauguration took place inside the US Capitol Rotunda due to dangerously cold temperatures in the nation’s capital. Many of Trump’s supporters attended a live viewing of the ceremony at Washington’s Capital One Arena, where Trump later showed up to attend a presidential parade.
A presidential inauguration was last held indoors in 1985, when President Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term.
