A week after his election victory, President-elect Donald Trump visited the White House on Wednesday and met with President Joe Biden.

The two men shook hands in front of the press, and Biden congratulated Trump and promised him a “smooth transition.” Trump said that while “politics is tough,” it’s “a nice world today.”

Their meeting lasted approximately two hours and was “very cordial, very gracious, and substantive,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. She said Trump brought “a detailed set of questions” but declined to say what they were.

Trump, who lost to Biden in the 2020 election, defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to complete a historic political comeback. He swept all of the key battleground states and became just the second defeated president in history to win a nonconsecutive term.

Republicans also won the House and the Senate, CNN projects, giving the GOP sweeping power for the next two years.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
