Less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene left more than 230 people dead in the Southeast, another massive hurricane has hit the state of Florida.
Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday as a Category 3 storm, bringing extreme rainfall, high winds and widespread power outages. It could become one of the most destructive storms on record for Florida’s Gulf Coast, and its disastrous impacts are being felt over much of the state.
In St. Petersburg, the roof was shredded at Tropicana Field, home of Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays. The stadium was intended to be used as a staging area for emergency response teams.
