The FBI is investigating what it said was an apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump at his Florida golf club on Sunday, September 15 — the second time in two months there’s been an apparent attempt on the former president’s life.

Trump, who was playing golf at the time, was not harmed. A Secret Service agent spotted a rifle barrel with a scope sticking out of the fence of the golf course and “immediately engaged” with the person, firing shots at the man, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said.

The Secret Service said that the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, didn’t have a line of sight to Trump from where he was on the perimeter of the golf club. The agency also said Routh didn’t fire a shot before a Secret Service officer fired at him and he fled the scene. Routh currently only faces gun-related charges.

Trump said Monday he needed more people on his security detail and suggested he told President Joe Biden as much when the president called him earlier in the day. Biden told reporters Monday that he wants Congress to give the Secret Service “more help” in the wake of the incident.

Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
