Nicole Kidman, one of the greatest actresses of her generation, was honored Saturday with the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award.
Kidman, 56, is the first Australian to receive the award.
"Nicole Kidman has enchanted audiences for decades with the daring of her artistry and the glamour of a screen icon," said Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees. "She is a force both brave in her choices and bold in each performance."
Since her career began in 1983, Kidman has won an Academy Award, six Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards and a BAFTA Award. Her Oscar win came in 2003 for her portrayal of author Virginia Woolf in "The Hours."
