A new Kigali campus for the African Leadership University was completed in 2020. The university's student-centered teaching approach is reflected in the design, which is made up of smaller classrooms and study pods, and has no lecture halls.

The university is designed by the international firm MASS Design Group, which the Wall Street Journal Magazine named Architecture Innovator of the Year in 2020.
