Liz Cheney, once a rising conservative star, was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Donald Trump for his role in the US Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021. She was also vice chair of the House select committee that investigated the attack and said in its final report that Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election led to the violence.
Since then, Cheney has lost her seat in Congress, falling to a Trump-backed primary challenger, and Trump has won a second term in the White House.
The former congresswoman is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, and while in she was in Congress she represented the same congressional seat in Wyoming that her dad once held. Earlier in her career, she practiced law and held various positions in the US State Department.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Cheney broke from her party and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. She even joined the Democratic nominee on the campaign trail.
