Larry King, the longtime CNN host who became an icon through his interviews with countless newsmakers, has died at the age of 87.

A statement was posted on his verified Facebook account announcing his passing. His son Chance confirmed his death on Saturday, January 23.

During his long career in broadcasting, King interviewed tens of thousands of guests, including celebrities, world leaders and other people in the news.

King hosted "Larry King Live" on CNN for 25 years. He retired in 2010 after taping more than 6,000 episodes of the show.

King was married to Sharon Lepore from 1976 to 1982. King was married eight times in his life, to seven women.
