Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg became the first woman to lie in state in the US Capitol on Friday, according to congressional historians.

Earlier in the week she lied in repose at the Supreme Court, giving the public a chance to pay their respects to the late justice.

Ginsburg died on September 18 due to complications of metastatic pancreatic cancer. She served on the court for more than 27 years.
