An airliner traveling from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Nairobi, Kenya, crashed shortly after taking off on Sunday, March 10, killing all 157 people on board.

Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET302 reported technical problems within minutes of takeoff, and it had requested permission to turn back before going down near Bishoftu, southeast of Addis Ababa.

The plane lost contact at 8:44 a.m. local time, six minutes after taking off from Bole International Airport.

The victims were of 35 different nationalities, an airline spokesman told CNN. Nineteen United Nations staff members were among those killed, according to a UN statement.

With investigations underway, multiple countries have suspended use of Boeing's new 737 MAX 8 aircraft. A 737 MAX 8 went down over the Java Sea in October, killing 189 people.
