The team have made many discoveries about the history of the Yucatan aquifer, including the jaw of a <a href="index.php?page=&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.britannica.com%2Fanimal%2Fgomphothere" target="_blank" target="_blank">Gomphothere</a> -- a family of elephant-like mammals that became extinct more than 10,000 years ago.
