"Ipanema needed somebody that speaks to both people in Lagos and also people in Cape Town, a continental media personality, which I think I fit into really well," Matheba tells CNN.

In 2013, Matheba made history as the first South African to be chosen as a brand ambassador for Revlon.

"A little black girl from Mafikeng could never imagine it being possible," she says, referring to the city in which she was born in the North West Province of South Africa.
