Andela is a company that scouts for smart Africans with a talent for tech, trains them and places them to work for international companies like Microsoft, while still based in Africa. The company is currently accepting applications for its first all-female developer team in Nairobi, Kenya.

"Our female software developers are moving through the technical leadership training at the same rate and have equal or better client satisfaction in comparison to their male counterparts once placed with international companies," says Andela co-founder Christina Sass.

Applicants have to go through several stages of a grueling selection process, which admits only 0.7% of those who apply.

The final stage is a two-week bootcamp, where aspiring developers are taught how to build web applications and are assessed on the speed at which they learn as well as their soft skills.

Once they are matched with a company, Andela flies the developers to its HQ so they can get to know the culture and meet the team. Successful alumni have worked for international giants like Microsoft and IBM, as well as emerging start-ups.

The company says they want to train 100,000 elite developers in the next 10 years.
