Tens of thousands of people packed Rajpath in New Delhi, India, for a mass yoga session on Sunday, June 21, 2015. The country's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a vocal advocate of yoga and has been encouraging the country's residents to take part, especially out-of-shape office workers.

Modi was among the thousands of yoga devotees taking part in the first International Day of Yoga. This pose is called Salabhasana, which strengthens the muscles of the spine, buttocks, arms and legs. It's said to help to relieve stress.

Modi, 64, performs an exercise to stretch the back. He appointed the country's first minister for yoga, Shripad Yesso Naik, in a government push to get more Indians involved.

Early on Sunday, Modi tweeted: "Greetings to people around the world on 1st International Day of Yoga! Lets pledge to make Yoga an integral part of our daily lives #YogaDay."
