Kalikawe grew up in Botswana, and studied in England and Kenya before starting her business in Tanzania. Her multicultural life and international outlook is reflected in her work.

While many of her designs incorporate Western influences, Kalikawe uses indigenous Tanzanian garments like the Kitenge, which she sees as funky and versatile.

As well as selling products which she has created, Kalikawe also showcases other designers in her store.
