Houston is not the only singer to pass away so tragically right around the Grammys. Karen Carpenter, who with her brother Richard performed as the Grammy-winning pop duo The Carpenters, died on February 4, 1983. The cause of death was heart failure related to her battle with anorexia. She was 32.

He had already been indicted on similar charges in Chicago stemming from a an alleged sex tape with a minor. The Florida charges were eventually dismissed and Kelly was acquitted of the Chicago charges.
