In the deep end —
Four-time Olympic gold medallist Janet Evans has returned to the pool in the hope of once again qualifying for the U.S. team. It will be a big ask for the 40-year-old, who retired from competitive swimming 15 years ago.

Can Schubert deliver? —
She is now training under the watchful eye of Mark Schubert, coach of the Golden West Swim Club in Huntington Beach, California.

Chasing Olympic glory —
Evans is hoping to qualify for her fourth Olympics, having competed at Seoul in 1988, Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996.

America's swimming sweetheart —
Evans inducts the 2006 class into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. When she retired in 1996 she was considered one of the greatest distance freestyle swimmers of all time.

Young ambitions —
A 23-year-old Evans shows off her gold medal after winning the 800 meter freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Rome, 1994. She was known for her "unorthodox windmill" stroke, as she puts it.
