The solar-powered yacht, Planet Solar, is currently on a world tour promoting solar energy.

The boat is fitted with 537-square meters of photovoltaic cells.

Around three quarters of the solar energy is used to propel the boat. The remainder is used for everything else from flushing toilets to operating the boat's navigational systems.

Captain of Planet Solar, Erwann Le Rouzic.

The boat is completely powered by photovoltaic cells which produce around 94 kilowatts of power on a sunny day.

The boat is 31 meters long (102 feet) and 15 meters (49 feet) wide. It was built in Germany at a cost of around $26 million.

Planet Solar set sail from Monaco in September 2010 crossing the Atlantic, the Panama Canal and currently the Pacific. Next stop is Singapore.
