• 24 February 2020, North Rhine-Westphalia, Duesseldorf: During a press conference, Iran's ex-World Champion Saeid Mollaei will answer questions from journalists. At the 2019 World Cup, Mollaei had been instructed by officials of his federation and other officials not to play in the semi-final match against the Belgian Casse or to lose intentionally. Because a final against the Israeli Muki threatened. However, for decades Iran has forbidden its athletes to compete against Israelis. He still competed, but he lost. He then fled from Iran and has been starting for Mongolia since December. Photo by: Roland Weihrauch/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images

 •
The new National Women's Soccer League season kicks off on Friday March 13 in the United States with two expansion teams - Boston and Denver - entering the fray and upping the total to 16 franchises competing for the season-ending trophy. Atlanta meanwhile is slated to join in the 2028 campaign with more clubs potentially in the works. The league had a major boost in January when Washington resigned superstar Trinity Rodman to a three-year contract and making sure the 23-year-old remains stateside. The deal was made possible by recently implemented "Rodman Rule" which allows teams to spend up to $1 million over the salary cap in order to be able to keep top players. For more on the new season and retaining Rodman, our Andy Scholes caught up with NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman last month in the build up to the Super Bowl in San Francisco.
