US President Donald Trump visited Chinese leader Xi Jinping for a historic summit in Beijing on Thursday.
During two days that included intensive bilateral meetings, the leaders covered a range of issues from Iran and Taiwan to trade. But there were also grand displays of soft diplomacy, marking the first Beijing meeting for the longtime rivals in nearly a decade.
Xi hailed the US-China relationship as the world’s most consequential, telling Trump: “We must make it work and never mess it up.”
Earlier in the summit, Xi warned Taiwan “is the most important issue in China-US relations” and it could create a “very dangerous situation” if mishandled.
