Four astronauts lifted off from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday, embarking on a historic 10-day mission to circumnavigate the moon.

The crew of the Artemis II — NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, along with the Canadian Space Agency’s Jeremy Hansen — could travel farther from Earth than any humans have before. Their projected journey would take them beyond the moon’s far side.

It has been more than 50 years since astronauts have traveled to the moon.

Artemis II will not land on the lunar surface. But it will serve as a pathfinder mission for the uncrewed Artemis III mission, which is expected to touch down near the moon’s largely unexplored south pole.

The Artemis program’s overarching goal is to hash out how humans can permanently live and work on the lunar surface.

US President Donald Trump speaks about the Iran war from the Cross Hall of the White House on Wednesday, April 1. “We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks,” Trump said during his 20-minute primetime address. “We are going to bring them back to the stone ages, where they belong.” Trump described the United States’ attack as payback for nearly a half-century of violence by Iran and its proxies, arguing that Tehran could not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon. He touted the progress made by the US military in recent weeks and asked Americans for patience.

Woods was driving a Land Rover and clipped a pickup truck pulling a small trailer, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters. The collision caused Woods’ vehicle to roll onto its side. Woods wasn’t injured, but he was showing signs of impairment, Budensiek said. Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He has pleaded not guilty. He later said he would be stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment.
