A recent trial in London hosted 150 teenagers attempting to win a place for the inaugural year of the NFL Academy.

Tottenham Hotspurs' new ground -- the first custom-built NFL stadium outside the US -- provided a stunning background for the young athletes to showcase their prowess.

They undertook exercises similar to the NFL scouting system intended to test speed and explosiveness.

There were two jumping drills -- the vertical jump (pictured) and the broad jump.

An agility drill tested trialists' ability to change direction at speed.

And the 40-yard dash tested raw speed -- an invaluable attribute for a running back or wide receiver.

A number of British NFL stars were in attendance to inspire the young hopefuls, including Carolina Panthers' defensive end Efe Obada (right).
